Peter Schwenke - Frolicking Goat
Cheesemaker, Peter Schwenke, trained in New Zealand and has spent some time in Poitou honing his skills. He has tasted his way throughout the Poitou-Charentes and Loire regions. He is proud of his attempt to bring these flavours to Queensland and so far have led to award winning cheeses.
Peter has a herd of around 30 goats on his rural property - he knows them all by name, and occasionally they might even come when called!
At the moment Peter feeds the goats on pasture and a carefully chosen mix of straws (which is not organic as yet). He uses natural pest control wherever possible, but if absolutely necessary as determined by his vet, does use antibiotics. Food Connect is helping find more goat cheese lovers for Peter while he continues to develop his cheeses and make his farm even more sustainable.
