The Huggins family have been farming in the Lockyer Valley since 1987. They have had organic status on their 81 hectare farm since 1988. The conversion of the farm wasn’t hard because it had formerly been used for lucerne production and there were few synthetic chemicals and fertilizers used.

The farm mainly produces broccoli, celery and carrots and this is done in rotation with cereal grains, potatoes, lucerne and forage hay. All the members of the family are involved in packing, marketing and sales and at times they do employ casual labour. The Huggins family have done a great deal of replanting of indigenous plants to form a riparian zone for wildlife and insect habitats as well as windbreaks and a buffer zones from the activities of neighbouring farms. They are constantly seeking feedback about their produce so they love how Food Connect provides a link straight to subscribers.
