The mulberries that go into our boxes come from just one tree on Sari Nightingale’s farm on Mt. Tamborine. It is quite an old and beautiful tree, and very fruitful. Sari’s farm is just over 5 acres and it has been a farm for some time prior to her buying it about 2 years ago.
Sari faces a number of challenges including high winds (the farm sits on a ridge) and the destructive forces of multitudes of hares. The sun is also quite harsh which can be a problem and can cause sunburned avocados.
Working in line with CSA principles, Sari is restoring the health of her farm as she plants two corridors of rainforest trees along each side of the property. She is also re-vegetating the creek banks; her property is only a kilometer from the source of Cedar Creek.
Sari also has the usual array of chicken coops, compost piles and vegetable gardens that supply her and her family with their own food needs. Apart from the mulberries and avocados, Sari’s farm has also supplied us with kiwifruit.
