Robin McCosker and his wife have owned their farm – Shortlands - in Severnlea, south of Stanthorpe for 38 years. Prior to this it had been producing mainly stone fruit.
Robin runs a certified organic farm where they use raised bed management which allows them to maintain their crops more efficiently. They also utilise a “power weeder” system which requires less manual labour, resolving one of their biggest problems on the farm. It also cuts out the use of chemicals, whilst still keeping the weeds away. Robin and Trish are keen to use farming practices that allow them to reduce their foot print on the planet as much as possible.
At Shortlands organic parsley, basil, apple cucumbers and a range of medicinal herbs are grown. One of the greatest benefits the McCoskers have found from growing organically is being able to better maintain the soil naturally. Constantly improving and increasing the quality of the soil allows them to provide really nutritious organically grown produce.
Robin and his wife like Food Connect as we provide fresh farm produce to city people as well as reducing the carbon foot print by the unique delivery techniques and business structure.
