Food security for South East Queensland

We are passionate about having a robust local and regional food system that produces enough food to meet our needs. As a nation, we have progressively been becoming less food secure, but at Food Connect we are working towards changing this in South-East Queensland through the following initiatives:

  • giving farmers fairer financial returns for their skilled work in growing our food
  • establishing a localised food distribution system that favours small farming enterprises
  • developing a food system that is less reliant on increasingly scarce fossil fuel energy
  • educating people about the problems with our food system and showing them some positive solutions
  • lobbying governments to implement policies that strengthen local food systems
  • helping young people get into farming through the New Farmers’ Pathway programme.
