Ecologically sustainable food production
Our food production systems must ultimately be ecologically sustainable. However, modern industrialised food production is a long way from this basic principle for sustaining life. To learn some of the basic differences between industrialised and ecologically sustainable farming, please click here.
At Food Connect we are working towards an ecologically sustainable local and regional food system that does not rely on chemical sprays or artificial fertilizers. One of our tasks is to help farmers using traditional farming methods to move towards sustainable food production.
Food Connect’s founder Robert Pekin is part of an Australia-wide group who will work on a system to certify farmers according to how far they have progressed on their path to sustainable production methods. Initial meetings have taken place – see the Participatory Farmer Assessment section for more details.
